BlindRoll — Support Questions? We're here to help. Contact: support@deappmakers.nl
--- How BlindRoll works BlindRoll simulates shooting on an analog film roll. You take up to 24 photos without being able to see them — just like a real film camera. When you're done shooting, you send the roll to the "darkroom." After 2 hours, your photos are developed and ready to reveal, one by one.
--- Getting started
How many free rolls do I get? Every new user gets 3 free rolls of 24 shots each. No account or payment required to get started.
Do I need to create an account? No account is required to shoot, develop, or view your photos. An account is only needed if you want to back up or sync your roll history across devices.
Can I see my photos while shooting? No — intentionally. The camera viewfinder shows what you're pointing at, but the captured photo is hidden until your roll is developed. That's the whole point.
--- Film rolls How many photos fit on a roll? Each roll holds up to 24 photos.
What happens when I run out of shots? Once you've taken all 24 photos (or chosen to stop early), you tap "Develop your roll" to send it to the darkroom. You cannot take more photos until the roll is developed and you start a new one.
What if I develop a roll before using all 24 shots? That's fine — you can develop at any time after your first shot. Unused frames are simply blank, just like a real film roll.
Can I cancel a roll that's developing? No. Once a roll is in the darkroom, the process runs until the 2 hours are up (or until you use Skip Development Time). This is by design — there's no going back, just like analog film.
My roll disappeared / I lost my photos — what happened? Your roll and photos are stored locally on your device. They can be lost if you delete the app, restore your phone from an unrelated backup, or if your device storage is wiped. We strongly recommend saving your revealed photos to your camera roll as soon as they're developed. BlindRoll cannot recover lost photos. --- Film filters
What filters are available? Three filters are free for everyone: - Kodak Gold — warm, faded, classic analog look - Fuji Velvia — vivid and saturated with cool blues - Ilford HP5 (B&W) — black and white, timeless documentary style - No filter — original colors, no color grading Two premium filters are available as a one-time purchase: - Polaroid SX-70 — soft fade, warm shadows, instant-film vibes - Agfa Vista — high contrast, cool highlights, retro feel When do I choose my filter? You choose your film filter at the start of each new roll — before you take your first shot. You cannot change it afterwards, just like loading a real film stock.
I bought a premium filter but it's locked again. Tap the menu (···) in the top-right corner, then tap Restore Purchases. Your filter will be unlocked again at no charge. Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID you used when you originally bought it.
--- Development time
Why do I have to wait 2 hours? The wait is the core experience of BlindRoll. The uncertainty of not knowing what you captured — and having to wait for it — is what makes the reveal exciting.
Can I skip the wait? Yes. On the developing screen you'll see a Skip wait button. Tapping it triggers a small one-time purchase that instantly marks your roll as developed. The price is shown on the button.
The app was closed during development — is my roll lost? No. The development timer runs in the background based on when you tapped "Develop your roll." When you reopen the app, it picks up exactly where it left off. You'll also receive a notification when your photos are ready.
I didn't get a notification when my roll was ready. Make sure BlindRoll has permission to send notifications. Go to Settings → BlindRoll → Notifications and enable "Allow Notifications." If notifications are on but still not arriving, try reopening the app — it will check the development status automatically on launch.
--- Saving and sharing photos How do I save a photo to my camera roll? After revealing your photos, tap the download icon on any photo to save it to your iOS photo library. BlindRoll will ask for photo library access the first time you do this.
Can I share a photo directly from BlindRoll? Yes. Tap the share icon on any revealed photo to share via AirDrop, Messages, Instagram, or any other app on your phone.
Where are my photos stored? All photos are stored locally on your device. BlindRoll does not upload your photos to any server.
--- In-app purchases What can I buy? - 1 film roll — one additional roll of 24 shots - 5 roll pack — five rolls at a discount - 10 roll pack — ten rolls, best value - Skip Development Time — instantly develop a roll in progress - Polaroid SX-70 filter — one-time permanent unlock - Agfa Vista filter — one-time permanent unlock How do I restore my purchases on a new device? Tap the menu (···) in the top-right corner and tap Restore Purchases. All non-consumable purchases (premium filters) will be restored automatically. Roll packs and Skip Development Time are consumable and cannot be restored — they were already delivered when you first purchased them.
I was charged but didn't receive my rolls / filter. First, make sure you have an active internet connection and try reopening the app. If the issue persists, tap Restore Purchases in the menu. If you are still not seeing the purchase delivered, contact us at support@deappmakers.nl with your Apple order number (found in your App Store receipt email) and we will investigate. Can I get a refund? Refund requests are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, find your BlindRoll purchase, and request a refund there.
--- Privacy and data Does BlindRoll collect my photos? No. Your photos never leave your device.
What data does BlindRoll collect? BlindRoll uses Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated usage data (such as how many rolls are developed per day). No personal information or photos are included. Push notification tokens are used solely to deliver development-complete notifications. See our full Privacy Policy for details. --- Permissions
Camera — Required to take photos for your film roll.
Microphone — iOS requires microphone access to be declared when the camera is in use. BlindRoll does not record audio.
Photo Library — Required only when you save a revealed photo to your camera roll. BlindRoll requests "Add Only" access — it can save photos but cannot read your existing library.
Notifications — Used to notify you when your roll has finished developing. You can disable this in Settings without affecting any other feature.
--- Troubleshooting The camera screen is black. Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera and make sure BlindRoll is toggled on.
The app crashes on launch. Force-close the app (swipe up from the app switcher) and reopen it. If the issue persists, try restarting your device. If it still crashes, please email us at support@deappmakers.nl with your iPhone model and iOS version.
My rolls counter shows 0 after reinstalling. Roll counts are stored locally and are lost when the app is deleted. We recommend not deleting the app unless necessary. Consumable roll purchases cannot be restored — if you experienced a purchase that was not delivered before a reinstall, contact Apple for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
The development timer is wrong / jumped ahead. The timer is based on the clock on your device. If you manually change your device's date and time, the timer may behave unexpectedly. Set your device to "Set Automatically" in Settings → General → Date & Time.
